Happy Clouds over London
Happy Clouds over London
Posted by thelalalife 03/02/2009
Floating vacant smiles cheer up London: A dyed helium soap-foam cloud - one of 2,057 released in an installation by British artist Stuart Semple - rises over the Thames past St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Semple was trying to add a little levity to the current economic situation. Watch the video at http://www.wikio.com/video/879204

URBAN ART: NYC WATERFALLS
URBAN ART: NYC WATERFALLS
Posted by thelalalife 06/29/2008
Like mirages shimmering in a desert, four man-made waterfalls pour 35,000 gallons of water a minute into the East River and New York harbor in one of the most ambitious public art projects undertaken in the United States.
Inspired in part by the waterfalls of Iceland, where Eliasson grew up, the artist called waterfalls "a fantastic natural phenomenon," but added that they are also a way to make people think not only about water but also space because "water falls through space."

Nine Iron designs, privately commissioned works and his own sculptural pieces. These classic straight sided incalmo bottles are a wonderful example of sophisticated yet simple design. Incalmo is a glassblowing technique used to create bands of color by joining two or more sections of hot glass. The complimenting top and bottom colors of each vase are separated by an opaque band of color containing gold leaf.

For more than a decade, Japanese artist Mariko Mori has been donning a special bodysuit, climbing inside her custom transparent time capsule, and posing at famous spots around the globe. For Mori, whose art often blends pop glamour and mysticism, Zen Buddhism and Hollywood sci-fi, this project has a higher purpose. “It’s a kind of peace mission,” she says, “connecting East and West as well as past, present, and future.”
